The Arab Republic of Egypt is a sovereign, united, indivisible State, where no part may be given up, having a democratic republican system that is based on citizenship and rule of law. The Egyptian people are part of the Arab nation seeking to enhance its integration and unity. Egypt is part of the Islamic world, belongs to the African continent, cherishes its Asian Dimension and contributes to building human civilization.
Egypt is located in the heart of the world. It is the point of convergence of the three old continents Africa, Asia and Europe. It also overlooks the Mediterranean and Red Sea along with the two Gulfs of Suez and Aqaba. On its lands the Suez Canal, one of the most important international waterways, is running. The River Nile, the lifeline for Egyptians, also flows throughout its territory. The Nile enjoys a special status in the hearts of the Egyptian people.
Egypt is located in the northeastern corner of the African continent. It is bordered to the north by the Mediterranean Sea with a coastline of 995 km. It is bordered to the east by the Red Sea with a coastline of 194 km. It is bordered in the northeast by Palestine and Israel, to the west by Libya, and to the south by Sudan.
The current Egyptian national flag was adopted on October 4 by Law No. 144 of 1984. The flag consists of three horizontal rectangles with two dimensions. The rectangle is two thirds wide. It is arranged in order of colors from top to bottom:
- Red: indicates sunshine, hope and strength.
- White: an expression of purity and peace.
- Black: Expresses the colonial ages of which Egypt has disposed.
- In the center of the middle rectangle is the golden-eagle of Saladin, the Ayubbid Sultan who ruled Egypt 12th Century, the same Saladdin of the Crusades.The Egyptian eagle is one of the strongest birds, looking to the right and expressing the power of Egypt and its civilizations, and on its base the “Arab Republic of Egypt” is written in Arabic kufic script.
